2. Who this course is for
An Applied Science A-level will give you a valuable, broad and practical scientific background! Throughout the course you’ll apply your scientific knowledge to the workplace – studying how science affects our lives in real ways. You’ll look at science in industry, you’ll develop the use of many analytical techniques, look at the generation of electricity and explore the ways in which science can be used to monitor the human body in health and disease. In most cases Applied Science is the most suitable science option for those who wish to take a single science subject at A-Level and /or expect to receive B and C grades in their GCSE science courses. It is a combination of coursework and exams! Many Applied Science students begin careers in nursing or midwifery and this subject is often combined with Health and Social Care. Primary school teaching and P.E teaching are also common destinations when combined with appropriate subjects.
3. Entry requirements
All students must hold a minimum of 5 GCSE’s at Grades 9 - 5, and Grade 5 in English and Maths. In addition students must achieve at least a Grade 6 in the subjects that they wish to study.

A mixture of taught material and independent research. In depth discussions about topical news items and the issues that arise from these developments. Practical work with an emphasis on interpreting data and drawing conclusions. Large extended projects, where an emphasis will be on time management and organisation.

8. Next steps
The Applied Science qualification is useful where a broad scientific knowledge is required. This qualification is supported by a range of universities, and taken alongside other qualifications, itcan fulfil the entry requirements for a number of science-related higher education courses including: physiotherapy, biomedical and sports science, and is particularly relevant to those wishing to undertake a vocational course such as nursing.
