2. Who this course is for

In 2016, the UK government
reported that the creative
industries were worth £9.6 million
an hour to the UK economy. The
UK film and video industry is an
important part of the creative
industries, producing everything
from promotional videos to
blockbuster movies. Advances in
digital technology have increased
the options for distributing,
accessing and making digital film
and video, thereby increasing
opportunities in this competitive
and dynamic area. The UK has
an international reputation
for creating some of the most
innovative and imaginative film
and video content in the world,
with internationally recognised
studios and production houses,
and a track record in developing
some of the best talent in the
business. The course links really
well with Art, Photography, English,
business and drama.

3. Entry requirements

Five grade 9-4 at GCSE level or
equivalent, including English.
An interest in the world of media
is also important.

4. What you'll learn

This course provides a technical
introduction to digital film and
video production. Learners develop
skills in areas such as single and
multi-camera techniques, sound
recording and film editing. You
are encouraged to think and work
creatively on a variety of projects,
with the potential to work on
live challenging briefs, which will
equip you with the skills needed to
succeed in this dynamic industry.

8. Next steps

Both BTECs can lead to either
HNC/HND in Media or a degree
in a related subject area such as

studies, film/television production,
advertising, broadcast journalism,
radio production, marketing,
publishing and print. The courses
also give you the opportunity to
create a show-reel portfolio of your
work which can be used to show
to future employers
