BTEC Level 3 Extended Diploma in Applied Science (Biomedical Science)

The Level 3 Extended Diploma is equivalent to three A levels. The programme is ideal for learners who wish to pursue a career in science and prefer hands-on vocational based learning.

At least 5 subjects at grade C/4 including English Language and Mathematics, plus 2 Sciences at grade 4 or above. Please note, you are not able to combine any other subjects with the Applied Science course.

The course is a mixture of theory and practical work. You will learn about health & safety and regulations in the workplace, an extensive range of practical skills and subject knowledge across biology, chemistry and physics, as well as having the opportunity to discuss and research the broader impacts of science on the world and our community. The BTEC has a flexible, unit-based structure and knowledge is applied in project-based assessments and exams. You will develop the practical, interpersonal and thinking skills required to succeed in employment and higher education.

Each unit is either externally assessed through an exam or set task, or internally assessed through assignment work.

Successful completion of this programme could lead to university to study a science-related degree or a pathway to careers such as nursing, midwifery, paramedics or an apprenticeship.
