You will need to be 18 years of age, at the start of this course. The entry requirements are 5 GCSEs with 4 points or C grade and above, including 4 points or C grade in English, or ideally two A Levels or a Level 2 Diploma in Creative Media at merit or above. Many of our students already have a degree, but this need not necessarily be a journalism or media degree. You will need to pass the NCTJ entrance test and have a short interview here at the college.
You will study shorthand, media law and regulation, essential journalism, public affairs and video journalism. The course includes a rich programme of masterclasses and guest speakers to enable you to make vital industry contacts. Course subject to viable numbers. This can also be done as a Trainee Journalist Apprenticeship.

Assessment is exam based and you will build a portfolio of pieces of work.
After successful completion of the NCTJ Diploma in Journalism and approximately 18 months as a Junior Reporter, you may progress to the National Qualification in Journalism Examinations (NQJ), which allows progression to the role of Senior Reporter.
