This award is aimed at candidates who may: • Want an introduction to delivering training/teaching • Be working towards the qualifications needed to obtain QTLS or ATLS • Be seeking career progression within the profession • Not be in a teaching role but are interested • Are training personnel in commerce, industry, education, the public sector or HM Forces • Are part-time or full-time teachers in further and adult education • Are teachers/trainers in the voluntary sector.

This is the new course which should be taken by anyone coming into the FE sector in any kind of teaching role. It is also the course which qualifies people to progress further towards QTLS. You need to be able to write fluently in essay form, so Literacy at level 2 is expected; and you should have access to a computer so that you can word-process the final assignment. You’ll email an electronic copy (in a format which can be read using and hand in a paper copy.

Understand how the course will be delivered.

In the 12 weekly classes, you will cover 3 Units over: Unit 301: Understanding roles, responsibilities and relationships in Education and training Unit 306: The principles and practices of assessment. Unit 302: Understanding and using inclusive teaching and learning approaches in education and training. There will be an assignment at the end of each Unit. The assignment will be word-processed, and you will need to submit an electronic and a paper copy.

Candidates will apply to join the Certificate in Education course in the following September. This is a two-year course and requires trainees to be in a teaching post.
