This Level 1 qualification is designed to help learners aged 14-19 years old to develop key personal and social skills, behaviours and attitudes that will build confidence in their own abilities and also how to demonstrate and apply these effectively. The Award aims to achieve this by using practical tasks, set in the retail automotive context. These tasks allow learners to tackle new activities and challenges individually and as part of a group. They will improve learners' social interaction and help them to develop skills that will prepare them to look for, obtain and maintain employment. The qualification meets the Personal and Social Development (PSD) requirements within the Foundation Learning programme, which supports learners in their preparation to make the step from school to work life.This qualification is designed to form the Personal and Social Development (PSD) component of Foundation Learning. There will be the opportunity to complete a functional skills qualification. The Level 1 Certificate requires 2 GCSEs at Grade 1 or above but at least one Grade 1 in English or Maths.All applicants will be required to attend an interview and as part of the enrolment process will be required to sit a BSKB diagnostic assessment.

There will be a requirement to pay a small fixed cost for books, boots and overalls that will be discussed at the interview stage.
Successful completion may enable the learner to gain entry to a IMI Light Vehicle Maintenance Level 1 course. If the learner is able to find employment in the motor vehicle trade it may be possible to join an the apprenticeship program.
