5 GCSE subjects with 4 points or C grade and above, including 4 points or C grade in GCSE English or an appropriate Level 2 qualification (at a merit if graded) and a satisfactory school report. You must also supply details of two personal referees who are not relatives, provide a school or college report and attend interview. To complete the placement, you will be required to complete an enhanced disclosure DBS check. We will contact you prior to enrolment to arrange this check.
The Diploma in Healthcare Support study programme will consist of 5 key elements which you will need to complete: > Main qualification – as above > Individual and group tutorial sessions > Industry related work placement > Development of English and mathematics. Course content is made up of 3 days in college and 2 days (around 14 hours per week) out in a variety of placements that reflect the changing Healthcare profession. We offer numerous work experience placements to students who undertake this course. These placements are tailored to meet the needs of the individual. Some examples of current placements are: > Phlebotomy Assistant – Darlington Memorial Hospital > Occupational Therapy – Community Care placements > Rehabilitation – drug and alcohol services in Darlington > Residential Care – Care homes > PTS – Patient Transport Services This course covers a range of topics including gaining an insight into a clinical working environment, supporting individuals with day to day activities and understanding mental health and well-being. Learning will take place via theoretical learning in the classroom three days per week and via placement learning for two days per week. A variety of teaching methods are implemented in order to offer maximum learning opportunities throughout this course including workshops, seminars, IT sessions, one to one tutorials and practical sessions

You will be assessed by your tutor or assessor from your workplace practice using a portfolio of evidence, practical demonstrations and assignments.
This qualification will enable you to progress into employment in the healthcare sector as it gives you a license to practice. You may also be able to progress onto the Level 3 Certificate/Extended Diploma in Health and Social Care.
