These qualifications have been reviewed by the Department for Education and are listed in the 2016 KS4 approved qualifications list. The combination of units within these qualifications provides learners with the flexibility to choose areas of interest within a wide range of engineering-related job roles. The qualification focuses on the acquisition of specialist knowledge supported by practical skills development. The qualification develops employability skills alongside technical knowledge to help with transition into employment. It is assessed by written tasks, externally set and marked multiple choice online tests, practical tasks and an overarching project which forms the synoptic assessment element to the qualification. These qualifications also have an overall grading of Pass, Merit or Distinction. There are no formal entry requirements and learners are not expected to have any prior knowledge or experience, however an interest in the subject area is advisable. Each qualification enables progression onto a wide range of further vocational qualifications in the engineering and associated sectors. u Introduction to working in the engineering industry u Preparing for work u Forming and joining engineering applications u Electrical foundation skills u Introduction to internal combustion engines u Introduction to computer aided design u Basic maths and science for engineering technicians. Achievement of these qualifications will help with progression onto higher level courses in a range of automotive and engineering subjects, with the knowledge to work within the automotive/engineering industry.
