This one year full time course delivered two days per week focuses on product development for mass production. It will teach the range of skills required for the role, including how to suggest modifications to garment designs, advising on fabric suitability, how and where to source new technology fabrics, ensuring the most appropriate construction methods are used to keep production within budget and how to oversee fabric testing and fit sessions. You will develop team working and negotiation skills to gain an in-depth understanding of how to communicate effectively with factories, pattern cutters, graders, buyers and design teams. This course includes a three week work placement with a major fashion brand to cement your knowledge with on the job experience to secure your future in fashion retail.

Entry Criteria: 1 A-level (or the equivalent Level 3 qualification) and 5 GCSEs grade C/4 or above, including Maths and English. If you have any non-UK qualifications, please provide us with a NARIC Statement of Comparability, as well as, the IELTS test for English language (our entry requirement is 5.5 overall and in all sections) if you have not studied in the UK or English speaking country.
You will also have the chance to get involved in a fashion retail project set by a leading fashion brand. You will negotiate the project yourself, and also learn to evaluate your efforts and present your work to industry on completion. Previous projects have included evaluating petite and plus size markets for River Island including reviewing competitors and suggesting potential brand ambassadors.
This course is a direct route into industry as there is a shortage of Garment Technologists. On successful completion learners will develop the technical skills required to work as a Fabric Technologist, Assistant garment technologist, senior technologist or a Technical Assistant.
Previous graduating students have gone on to House of Fraser, New Look and ASOS.
